    A German treat...

    (The star of the day!)

Haven had a good night sleep last night, ended waking up only in the afternoon at around 230pm. The weather was not ideal to go out actually, but like I've mentioned a little in my previous post, I was suppose to meet up a friend of mine whom I haven met for eons, to a wine tasting session at a German restaurant, as well as have our dinner there.

My eyes were not in their best condition coz they were really swollen, even at around 4pm. I had actually messaged my friend that I might not be joining him and the German couple due to my swollen eyes. But with his assurance that all will be fine, we followed our initial plan nevertheless. Met up at 530pm at Outram MRT station. We gathered that it's been around 2 years since we last met but fortunately that didn't cause any awkwardness between us when we met.

We walked over to a German Restaurant located near the Majestic Hotel. The name of the German Restaurant is Magma. Nice ambience and right outside the restaurant were the owners whom my friend Albert seem to be in good terms with. Lolx..had some introduction going on before we were led to our reserved seats. Albert's German couple friend didn't turn up eventually coz they didn't manage to make prior reservations, so ended up it was just us chatting among ourselves. Laughs...Albert suggested that we get some food before the wine tasting session starts, so we ended up ordering their roasted pork chop in Black Beer sauce, which was also accompanied by red cabbage and potato dumpling. I've never tried German food actually, and though this was like the dunno how many zillion times Albert had German food, this was our first try on this dish and we were both contented with it!

    (Simple and nice settings)

The session started late coz of many late-comers. Typical Singaporean? I guess so. The Singapore wine consultant and wine writer Malcolm Tham, who happened to be Albert's German tutor was there to share with us today and Walla the perfect seats we had since we were seating directly in front of the speaker. Lolx...Very in depth teachings and sharings and these were the wines we tried:

    The first one to come:
    - 2006 Langenlonsheimer Riesling, Q.b.A., Semi Dry
    Alc. 12.5% vol, acidity 7.1g/l, residual sugar 7.0 g/l
Sweet, exotic yellow fruit aroma with mineral note
    Price per btl: SGD 38.00
(I quite like the sweetness and chrisp feel of this white..)

The second one to come..also a white:
    - 2006, Langenlonsheimer Koenigsschild, Gewuerztraminer, Selection, Semi Dry
    Alc. 13.0% vol, acidity 5.0 g/l, residual sugar 8.9 g/l
    Price per btl: SGD 55.00
(Didn't really like Gewuerztraminer due to the bitter finish though...)

The third one, finally a red!!:
    - 2004 Blauer Spaetburgunder (Pinot Nior), dry
    Alc. 13.5% vol, acidity 5.4 g/l, residual sugar 1.4 g/l
A fresh, soft wine with fine cherry aroma
    Price per btl: SGD 40.00
(Very smooth and soft red, comfortable for leisure drinking for me =))

    The final one..a dessert wine!!woohoo~:
    - 1999 Langenlonsheimer Loehrer berg, Scheurebe, TBA, dessert, 0.5 l
    Alc. 7.0% vol, acidity 10.1 g/l, residual sugar 287.4 g/l
    Price per btl: SGD 145.00
(Yes you read it right..nearly 150 bucks..but the taste is worth every cent! Very sweet and viscous..I lurrrveee it!!)

FYI: all the above wines are actually from the Nahe region. To be more specific, they are all from the Wilhelm Schweinhardt winery, which happens to be one of the largest in the Nahe region.

(The wines, not in their best presentation..but yep there's the red one on the left and the dessert wine on the right ^^)

Oh and not forgetting to mention, there's also AYNSLEY GREEN, Jazz Pianist, to play for us after the wine tasting session. Very smoothing and nice place to relax and share with a friend! He actually plays there every Sunday from 8pm to 9.30pm. And per Albert, the dish we had this evening seems to be one of Aynsley's favourites. Keke...so well..after the wine tasting session, Albert even brought me over to the Magma shop whereby wines that we drank could be bought. The shop also sold other specialised products like their chocolates, home-made bread, sausages, beers, wines and even juices. A very nice place indeed!

(Some shots at Magma shop located just beside the restaurant)

With a nice chat over the delicious food and lovely wines, it was a great evening spent together! I'll definitely be back to Magma for more...=)
